2. Monsoon Season (May to October):

• Rainy Season (June to September): Afternoon rains are common, lasting less than an hour, providing relief from high temperatures. These rains are often accompanied by powerful winds.
• Transitional Period (October to November): The rains continue, but temperatures begin to decrease, with highs around 30 °C (86 °F) and lows around 23 °C (73 °F).

All travelers planning to visit Cambodia must obtain a visa, except for passport holders of ASEAN countries. There are several methods to apply for a Cambodia visa:

• Online (Cambodia eVisa): This option allows entry only through specific airports/land borders.
• On arrival: Available at airports or border crossings.
• At an Embassy of Cambodia abroad.

Cambodian visas can be obtained on arrival or online, and the process is generally straightforward.

Tourist visas (T) are specifically for tourism purposes. Upon receiving a Cambodian visa (online, on arrival, or at an Embassy), visitors can stay in Cambodia for up to 30 days from the entry date. 

A tourist visa can be extended once for an additional 30 days at the Immigration Department of the Cambodian National Police.

• Languague: Khmer is the country’s official language. Others include Vietnamese, Lao, Chinese, Thai, English.
• Local SIM card: You can buy a Cambodia SIM card in international airports, mobile provider stores, convenience stores, or online. However, it is best when you buy at official stores. There are various options for you such as Metfone, Cellcard, Smart, Seatel…

  There are three types of plugs: A, C, and G. 

  • Plug type A has two flat parallel pins
  • Plug type C has two round pins

  Cambodia uses a power supply voltage of 230V and operates on a frequency of 50Hz.

  Consider to pre charge for an extended journey and bring your converter in case yours does not fit into some outlets.

Tipping is not compulsory in Cambodia, you can tip when you’re satisfied with the services. However, in such a poor country, a small tip can go a long away. 

• Hotels and Restaurants: While many upscale establishments include a service charge, it’s customary to leave small change as a tip. For exceptional service, an additional 5-10% is appreciated.
• Tour Guides and Drivers: Tipping tour guides and drivers is common. For guides, $5-$10 per day is standard, and for drivers, $2-$5 per day is appropriate.
• Taxis: Taxis may not expect tips, but rounding up the fare is appreciated.

Bargaining is expected in markets. Start by offering half or two-thirds of the initially quoted price and negotiate from there. 

• Tuk-tuks and Transportation: Agree on the fare before starting the journey. Tuk-tuk and moto taxi fares are usually negotiable.

Overall, let’s be polite, smile and know the value of the item or the service before bargaining.
